Oakville Neighbourhood Guide

A lakeside community within Halton Region, the Town of Oakville consists of 19 distinct neighbourhoods, business sector, and parks. No matter where in Oakville you call home, each community has its own charm and access to top schools. Nearly all of the public secondary schools are in the top 20% of schools in Ontario.

Bronte

Bronte is a mixture of old and new, offering living space that appeals to a variety of needs, from retirement residences and condos to trendier new development single-family homes and townhomes. High rise condos offer coveted views of Lake Ontario and many nearby parks provide desirable greenspace, including walking trails along the lake. Of note, Shell Park is abundant with gardens, brings the neighbourhood together for sports like soccer and skateboarding, and provides an off-leash area for dogs. Families also appreciate the area’s excellent schools. Bronte boasts a large selection of restaurants and boutiques. Its boundaries are Lake Ontario to the south, Burloak Dr. to the west, the QEW to the north, and the Bronte Creek to the east. Commuters have easy access to the QEW and the GO Train from Bronte station.

Bronte Creek

Bronte Creek offers new development within a setting of natural beauty. Homes have been designed to blend gorgeously with the surrounding landscape, which is full of walking trails through forests, parks and waterways. This is one of Oakville’s newest communities, giving families access to modern schools. Most recently the new Oakville Hospital opened, providing state-of-the-art healthcare to the community. Shopping and recreation facilities are close by. Bronte Creek is located in northwest Oakville. To get out of the city, it’s easy to hop onto the 407 and the QEW. GO Train commuters can board at Bronte Station.

Central Oakville

Central Oakville is a small, trendy area located within the boundaries of Lake Ontario to the south, Dorval Drive to the west, Speers Road to the north, and 16 Mile Creek to the east. There is a mixture of luxury homes and lakefront estates as well as older, smaller homes and condominiums. Residents enjoy living within walking distance of Lake Ontario, Oakville’s abundant parks and quality schools and recreation facilities. A diverse selection of shops can be enjoyed, such as those found within eclectic Kerr Village. The QEW, Oakville Transit, GO Transit and Via Rail are convenient to access.

Clearview

Clearview (also known as Sherwood Heights) sits on the east end of Oakville, making it the ideal neighbourhood for commuters. With the QEW to the north, Ford Drive to the west, Royal Windsor Drive to the south and Winston Churchill Boulevard to the east, it’s the fastest exit to Mississauga, Etobicoke or Toronto. Developed in the 1980s, this is a very family-oriented community with affordable housing options, from townhomes and semi-detached to four-bedroom detached homes, some on large lots. Residents enjoy the parks, soccer and baseball elds and a variety of public, Catholic and French immersion primary schools. High school students can attend top-ranked Oakville Trafalgar High School. Malls, movie theatres, bars and restaurants are all easy to access.

College Park

College Park is known for its affordable housing, offering condo apartments, townhomes and detached homes, most built in the 70s. The area is home to Sheridan College and offers apartment living for college students. This neighbourhood is located in northeast Oakville, with Upper Middle Road to the north, Trafalgar Road to the East, the QEW to the south and 16 Mile Creek the west. College Park also offers luxury homes that sit along 16 Mile Creek. Residents enjoy mature trees and parkland. Many public and private schools are in this area. Commuters can easily access the Oakville GO Station and Via Rail.

Falgarwood

Falgarwood offers residents a park-like setting amongst mature trees, ravines, creeks and walking trails. Situated within Trafalgar Road to the west, Upper Middle Road to the north, Ninth Line to the east and the QEW to the south, this neighbourhood offers convenient highway access to commuters. Buyers enjoy the ability to purchase homes built in the 50s and 70s. Some offer large lots, backing onto parkland. Both private and public schools are accessible by foot and Sheridan College is nearby. Shoppers will enjoy their close proximity to malls and big box stores.

Ford

The Ford community is located in the southeast corner of Oakville, making it very accessible to the QEW. Residents are surrounded by parkland and trees. Homes are a mixture of 1960s/1970s era to new custom residences. Many buyers are tearing down original homes to build new, contemporary residences. Along Lakeshore Road you can nd beautiful lakefront estates. Further north smaller, affordable homes can be purchased. Top-ranked Oakville Trafalgar High School is within this area. Shoppers can enjoy downtown shopping as well as malls. Oakville GO Station, Clarkson GO Station and Via Rail are nearby.

Glen Abbey

Glen Abbey attracts families looking for a large home in a mature neighbourhood. Homes are approximately 30 years old are undergoing renovations. The community also offers condo townhouses and apartments. It’s an ideal community for high-ranked schools and recreation facilities, including the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre and Library and the Oakville Gymnastics Club. Of course, its namesake Glen Abbey Golf Club is within the community, noted for hosting the Canadian Open Golf Championships. Glen Abbey is also close to shopping, restaurants and professional services. This community is bound by 16 Mile Creek to the east, Burloak Drive to the west, Upper Middle Road to the north and North Service Road to the south.

Glenorchy

Glenorchy is one of four neighbourhoods that make up the growing New Communities of Oakville. Located north of Dundas Street, south of the 407, east of Tremaine Road and west of Ninth Line, it is expected that the New Communities of Oakville will be home to 50,000 people. This community is designed to preserve natural resources, incorporating protected green space, trail systems and managed water resources. This area is ideal for those looking for an affordable newer home with modern conveniences. The Sixteen Mile Sports Complex services this neighbourhood. Major highways can be accessed quickly as well as GO Transit and Via Rail.

Joshua Creek

Buyers who are looking for a luxury home in an upscale community will be attracted to Joshua Creek. Construction began in the 90s and new builds are still being constructed. Located within 8th Line to the west, Dundas Street to the north, 9th Line to the east and Glen Ashton/Grand Boulevard to the south, commuters have great access to the 403, 407 and QEW. Residents enjoy the use of Iroquois Ridge Community Centre and are in close proximity to shopping, great restaurants and public transit. The neighbourhood also caters to golf (White Oaks Golf Course), soccer, baseball and hockey.

Joshua Meadows

Joshua Meadows is one of four neighbourhoods that make up the growing New Communities of Oakville. Located north of Dundas Street, south of the 407, east of Trafalgar Road and west of Ninth Line, it is expected that the New Communities of Oakville will be home to 50,000 people. This area is ideal for those looking for affordable newer homes with modern conveniences. Residents have access to the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Morrison

Morrison is Oakville’s most auent neighbourhood. It is noted for mature trees, waterfront properties and gated entrances to dream homes. Prime plots range from 1⁄ to 1 acre and average $2 million. Morrison residents can attend Oakville Trafalgar High School, one of Ontario’s top-rated secondary schools, and private schools are close by. Morrison residents who don’t own lakefront property can access Lake Ontario at Gairloch Gardens, 11 acres of gardens and home to Oakville Galleries. Morrison boundaries are Maple Grove Drive to the east, Chartwell Road to the west, Cornwall Road to the north and Lake Ontario to the south. Residents have quick access to the QEW and 403. GO Transit is also nearby.

Old Oakville

Old Oakville is the original part of the city, full of historic homes, parks and churches. Newly renovated homes, modern townhouses and estate residences also make up this neighbourhood. It is popular for boutique shopping, spas, cafes, and ne restaurants in the downtown core. Private clubs along the 16 Mile Creek include Oakville Club, Oakville Power Boat Club and Burloak Canoe Club. The Oakville Harbour provides mooring for sail and powerboats. Old Oakville is perfect for families looking for downtown living and smaller, updated homes that are anything but cookie- cutter to luxury condos or mansions. This neighbourhood has Lake Ontario to the south, the QEW to the north, Chatwell Road to the east and 16 Mile Creek to the west.

River Oaks

River Oaks is located along 16 Mile Creek, abundant with a mixture of vintage urban style homes, Colonial style carriage homes and late 90s homes. Oak Park Urban Village offers family-friendly townhomes and condos. Homes along 16 Mile Creek offer a more upscale option. Residents can enjoy the parkland and trails, the River Oaks Community Centre and the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, which houses a four-pad hockey arena and two soccer elds. Private and public schools service this neighbourhood and it is close to Sheridan College. With 16 Mile Creek to the west, Trafalgar Road to the east, Dundas Road to the north and Upper Middle Road to the south, commuters have easy access to the QEW, 403, 407 and GO Transit and Via Rail services.

Southwest Oakville

Southwest Oakville homes were typically built in the 50s and 60s – many of which are undergoing renovations. There are new custom homes being built as well. Many luxury lakefront homes have multi- million-dollar views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline. Residents can enjoy Coronation Park where many events take place in the summer and are close to sports facilities, such as the YMCA. Top-ranked schools, including Appleby College, the Woodside Public Library, boutique shopping and dining in the downtown core help to make this a popular address. Commuters can easily access the QEW, Oakville Transit, the GO Train at Oakville or Bronte Station, and Via Rail. It sits within the boundaries of 3rd Line to the west, Rebecca Street to the north, Dorval Drive to the east and Lake Ontario to the south.

Wedgewood Creek

Wedgewood Creek offers more affordable single-detached homes and townhomes. Homes built in the late 80s are being updated to suit modern needs and have larger lot sizes with mature trees. Families enjoy the parks, walking trails, Iroquois Ridge Community Centre and Library, a skateboarding park, outdoor tennis courts and a leash-free park. Glenburnie and Fern Hill private schools are located here as are excellent public schools. There is easy access to shopping, including big box stores, and it’s a quick drive to the 403, 407 and QEW. Trafalgar Road lies to the west, Dundas Street to the north, 8th Line to Glen Ashton to the east and Upper Middle road to the south.

West Oak Trails

West Oak Trails is perfect for families who desire a newer neighbourhood and a choice of housing. More affordable options are available with smaller lots to luxury homes backing onto a ravine. This neighbourhood has everything for children, including playgrounds, splash pads, walking trails, parkland and the indoor soccer facility, Pine Glen Soccer Centre. Education is top-notch with Oakville’s noted Captain R. Wilson public school and the new Garth Webb Secondary School servicing the area. French Immersion programs are available and a choice of daycares. It is also within walking distance of the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. This neighbourhood sits within 3rd Line Road to the west, Dundas Road to the north, 16 Mile Creek to the east and Upper Middle Road to the South. Commuters can quickly hop onto the 407 and QEW. GO Train commuters can board at Bronte Station. Oakville Transit also services the area.

West Oakville

West Oakville offers post-war bungalows on larger lots as well as split- level homes. This is a neighbourhood in transition with moderately priced area, but also offers custom rebuilt homes in the luxury market. Residents enjoy the mature trees, green spaces and the close proximity to Lake Ontario. Families have access to public and Catholic schools as well as French Immersion programs. Situated on the west side of Oakville, commuters are close to the 407, 403 and QEW. GO Train commuters can board at Bronte Station. Speers Road is to the north, Rebecca Street to the south, Bronte Creek to the west and Dorval Drive to the east.

Westmount

Westmount is a desirable new neighbourhood, parts of which are still being developed. It offers something for all budgets, including modern detached homes that range in size as well as semi-detached and townhomes. This is a planned community with plenty of walking trails through forested areas, shopping, restaurants, new schools and sports and recreation centres. It is also close to the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Westmount is located within the boundaries of Bronte Road to the west, Dundas Road to the north, 3rd Line to the east and Upper Middle Road to the south. Commuters have quick access to the 407 and QEW or can take the GO Train from Bronte Station.
